Description

Students analyze literary devices found in song lyrics.

Preparation

Select a song that connects to your learning objective, theme, or unit of study.

Implementation

Begin by explaining that students will listen to a song twice to analyze its lyrics. First play: students only listen. Second play: display lyrics and distribute the Figurative Language in Music handout. Students identify figurative language (e.g., metaphors, similes, alliteration, repetition). End with partner sharing of analysis.
