Implementation

Distribute a 3-2-1 Reflection handout to each student. Explain that students will individually reflect on their learning to write three new things they learned from today’s lesson, identify two connections to prior knowledge or real-world applications, and pose one question they still have about the topic. When complete, invite students to share one item from each category with a partner or the class.

Teaching Tips

  • Model the activity to ensure students are familiar with it before using it as an exit ticket.
  • After class, review student 3-2-1 reflections to identify gaps in understanding and plan targeted instruction for the next lesson.

Supporting All Learners

For students needing additional support: Consider providing sentence frames, visuals, or word banks relevant to the lesson.

For advanced learners: Encourage students to make deeper connections by comparing concepts across units or subjects. Ask them to elaborate on their two connections by explaining not just what connects but how and why these connections matter to their learning.

For multilingual learners: Provide bilingual word banks and visual support, and invite students to respond in their home languages alongside English. Partner students strategically with supportive peers who can help clarify instructions while maintaining the independence of their reflections.

Note: Provide accommodations and modifications based on your learners’ needs to ensure full participation.
