Implementation

Distribute a Draw It Out! handout and drawing supplies to each student. Explain that students will draw their thoughts about today’s lesson in each of the three boxes rather than write them. Give students 6–7 minutes to complete their drawings. As they finish, invite a few volunteers to share one of their drawings with the class and explain the thoughts that go with it.

Teaching Tips

  • Consider showing an example and briefly describing what students should draw in each section before asking them to complete their handouts independently.
  • Model sample drawings that are intentionally simple to avoid intimidating students who may not feel confident in their artistic abilities.
  • Consider having students add a single word or short phrase to their drawings if appropriate for their age and ability.

Supporting All Learners

For students needing additional support: Provide drawing starters or simple shapes that students can build upon.

For advanced learners: Encourage students to add more details or create a sequence of simple drawings to show their progression of understanding.

For multilingual learners: Encourage students to add labels to their drawings in their home languages.

Note: Provide accommodations and modifications based on your learners’ needs to ensure full participation.
